Shingle Creek is the headwaters of the Everglades. This 2-hour guided tour starts and ends at The Paddling Center at Shingle Creek, located directly off of Hwy 192. Tour participants quickly enters an ecological gem that is rated one of the top paddling trails in Florida by Johnny Molloy, author of “Canoeing and Kayaking Florida.” Within 20 minutes you enter an old-growth cypress forest that is both serene and stunningly beautiful. The tour includes kayak rental, life jacket, drinks/snacks, and ongoing narration about the rich ecology and history of Shingle Creek. All guides have ACA Instructor certification, as well as First Aid, CPR & AED certification. Basic and intermediate paddling technique instruction is included for novices and intermediate level kayakers. Kayak instruction will include at minimum 6 basic paddling techniques (forward, reverse, sweep, draw, rudder, and edging). Young children, as young as 4 years old, can participate given our 2-person (tandem) kayak has a jump seat in the back for them to sit and enjoy the experience.
The Paddling Center location is literally minutes away from the major theme parks and resort hotels, so including this in your vacation itinerary can be done very readily.
The ecology and wildlife associated with Shingle Creek is unmatched due to the fact that the paddling trail includes a pristine cypress forest area.
Expert kayak paddling instruction is provided so that novice paddlers can participate in this uniquely Florida wildlife experience, while learning a new skill that will last a lifetime.
On most days, the water flows at a very leisurely pace making learning to kayak a very fun and enjoyable experience, and moving water doesn’t allow mosquitoes to breed, so bugs are not an issue.
Experiencing Florida’s natural beauty up close while controlling your own kayak can be a transformative experience and one that your whole family will talk about for years.
