Back in Time - Pioneer Village History Kayaking Eco-Tour

Where Nature meets History

Travel Back in Time to the 1800's

on this Unique 2.5 hour tour.

A Eco-friendly attraction of Florida's natural beauty.

Back in Time - Pioneer Village History Kayaking Eco-Tour

Travel back to the 1800's with us on this one of a kind paddling tour. This 2.5 hour tour departs daily from The Paddling Center where we'll travel the same paths the original settlers of Osceola County did as we head upstream to visit The Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek. Once there we will set out to explore this unique village comprised of a permanent collection of authentic structures which once upon a time stood in different areas of Osceola County.

This gently preserved village demonstrates how life was once lived before our modern time.

We will then go back to the river to complete the kayaking portion of the tour where we can show you authentic Indian landmarks, wildlife and true Florida Beauty.

Activity Description

Shingle Creek is the headwaters of the Everglades.  This 2-hour guided tour starts and ends at The Paddling Center at Shingle Creek, located directly off of Hwy 192.  The tour includes kayak rental, life jacket, drinks/snacks, and ongoing narration about the rich ecology and history of Shingle Creek and Pioneer Village.  All guides have ACA Instructor certification, as well as First Aid, CPR & AED certification.  Basic and intermediate paddling technique instruction is included for novices and intermediate level kayakers. Kayak instruction will include at minimum 6 basic paddling techniques (forward, reverse, sweep, draw, rudder, and edging).  Young children, as young as 5 years old, can participate given our 2-person (tandem) kayak has a jump seat in the back for them to sit and enjoy the experience.

Highlights

  • The Paddling Center location is literally minutes away from the major theme parks and resort hotels, so including this in your vacation itinerary can be done very readily.

  • The ecology and wildlife associated with Shingle Creek is unmatched due to the fact that the paddling trail includes a pristine cypress forest area.

  • Expert kayak paddling instruction is provided so that novice paddlers can participate in this uniquely Florida wildlife experience, while learning a new skill that will last a lifetime.

  • On most days, the water flows at a very leisurely pace making learning to kayak a very fun and enjoyable experience, and moving water doesn’t allow mosquitoes to breed, so bugs are not an issue.

  • Experiencing Florida’s natural beauty up close while controlling your own kayak can be a transformative experience and one that your whole family will talk about for years.

  •
